FAMOUS MEXICAN CURANDERO DON MARTIN MARTINEZ PERFORMING A CURE

MEXICAN FOLK MAGIC

Mexican folk magic generally comes in two varieties - that of people who seek to do good and help others, and that of people who seek to do evil and harm others. The first group are generally known as curanderos (or curanderas if they are women), and the second group are known as brujas (witches). There is no "Wicca" in Mexico. Witches are exclusively seen as evil, malevalent, and dangerous, and they are feared, shunned, and hated.

Here at Fausto's, in keeping with the mores our patron saints, the Glorious Martyr San Fausto, San Miguel Arcangel, San Martin Caballero, San Cipriano, and Nuestra Madre de Guadalupe, we encourage people to use the aid of saints and spirits, talismans, prayers, and spells to do only good, as we have been taught by the numerous curanderos and curanderas we have met and known, and whom we have interviewed. Mexican magic is a blend of Catholic and Pre-Columbian Indian beliefs and practices, and it is very similar to Cuban Santeria, in some ways, but radically different in others. We have written several articles about this, many of which you can find in the archives of our e-mail discussion group about curanderismo which is located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/1curanderismo
