The restaurant “La Poblana” is located on Calle Juarez, in downtown Ojinaga, right around the corner from the town square and right in front of Fausto’s Art Gallery.

Inexpensive, unpretentious, clean, bright, and with tasty, home style cooking, it has been one our favorites for years now.

Their slogan is their “Family Atmosphere”, and this is indeed one restaurant that is probably the number one favorite of the local people here, and from the people from the rural areas - the “ranchos” - who visit Ojinaga regularly.

Owner Ana Gonzalez adds a very personal touch to the food and the treatment that visitors receive, along with her two charming and delightful daughters, Aurora and Elia. The Gonzalez family also own a butcher shop, the “Carneceria Gonzalez”, and a tortilla factory - the “Tortilleria Gonzalez”, on the next street over from Calle Juarez - Calle Allende. These assets help keep the cost down for meals at the restaurant!

Open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM seven days a week, there is fresh menudo daily, and “comida corrida”, which is a two course meal featuring a type of vegetable beef soup known as “caldo”, followed by another plate known as the “guisado”. This is tasty, filling, and cheap!

For picnickers and people who want something “to go”, they sell kilos of barbacoa or asado for 60 pesos (about six bucks).

At the tortilla factory, the “Tortilleria Gonzalez”, corn tortillas are 6 pesos a kilo. The “Carneceria Gonzalez” has chicharrones for 60 pesos a kilo, and all sorts of great buys on cuts of beef, pork, and chicken.
